The team I picked to win the national championship lost big today and got knock out of NCAA tournament. I've been watching all four teams played throughout the tournament and North Carolina is the only team that impressed me so much that I picked them to win it all this year.
They are talented from top to bottom. Not only are they more athletic than the other teams, they are also well coached and play very good defense. They are very quick they could run you right out of the court. After a team scored a very hard earned 2 points against the UNC defense, UNC did not even let the team savor the score for just a second. They inbound the ball quickly and in the blink of an eye, they ran all the way to the other end and score on you. So the two points you just got is just erased. They are the only team I do not see a weakness, they played hard and they can make their free throws unlike Memphis.
North Carolina has been beating their opponents in double digits and almost always put the other team out and cruise to the end. I think the commentator is right, North Carolina was so good they always jumped on the other team and rarely trail, they never have to deal with adversity when they trailed by so many and tried to come back.
Kansas jumped on them right away and took off like a train that never stop. They played at a break neck pace and North Carolina was never in it, they were sloppy and slow, not like the UNC I know and saw. Kansas whopped them thoroughly.
That is why NCAA tournament is so fun to watch, you never really know what is going to happen, sometimes a lot of things defy logic. The only sure thing I saw is North Carolina and now they were history. The Kansas team that barely escaped Davidson (my favorite team this year), is the same Kansas team that put a totally humiliating / annaliating beating on the best team in the country.
At the end, these are just bunch of kids that play their hearts out because they know they are building a life time of memory here. A final four is a special thing that many good players never get to experienced. They are enjoying every seconds of it.
It's extremely difficult to win a championship in the NCAA men's tournament because it's a elimination game that once you lose you are out. You have to bring your best every single night. Almost every stage of the tournament there are lots of upsets where the underdog just buried the number 1 seed.
In Monday's championship game, it will be Memphis vs Kansas. Neither of them I would pick to be in the championship game. It's going to be very interesting because both teams are good and they both have some glaring weaknesses. If I have to pick again, it'll be Kansas winning the championship on Monday. Who really knows, I would not bet any money on NCAA tournament, it's just too risky for my taste.
