I love this time of the year, when March madness resumes and college basketball team is playing for the national title. They don't call it the March Madness for nothing, it's crazy because ninety percent of the time you have to sit at the edge of your seat. Kids are battling like there is no tomorrow, it's usually a very closely contested ball game that ended up being a one point or two points heart breaker for the losing team.
It's great not only because it show cased the best athletic talents in the country, it also expressed the kids' pure joy of playing the game of basketball. I understand why the kids are pouring their hearts out and leave everything on the floor trying to win the game, because for them this is probably their most precious memory. A sweet memory of being on a great team, playing passionately and unselfishly trying to do the best they can.
It's great because you can actually see the kids are competing fiercely and acting like an adult, fighting like a grown man. Then when it's all over, you see the kids being a kid, jumping up and down with joy if they win; or crying uncontrollably like a baby when they lost a heart breaker. The games are pure drama with authentic human emotions on full display.
I enjoy the game so much not only for its drama, but for the purest form of pursuit of excellence. When the kids are playing basketball, they don't play for individual accolades, they don't play for big contracts like the pros do, they don't play for big money endorsements. They play because they love to compete and love the game of basketball. Pure and simple. The pros ought to stop for a second and think way back and remember when they were young, when they were playing for pure joy. The fans don't have to hear nonsense about how with 12 million dollars a year you can't feed your family. People associate with the kids because they just play, and people are having a hard time relate to the millionaire professional athletes, because people can't see the pure joy the pros too once possessed albeit many years ago.
Davidson the underdog just upset Georgetown. Look at the joy.
And look at the heart breaking team from another game:
