I just saw this documentary "A Warrior's Journey". This is a
documentary about Bruce Lee. Most people know him as the kungfu
fighting tough guy that immortalized by his lightning quick kicks. He
is actually a very interesting guy that has a very deep understanding
of philosophy.
Like most of us that tends to think about life in
general, try to answer the typical questions like "where are we from?"
"Why we are here?" and "Who are we".
To me, the question usually
becomes "who am I and what is God's purpose of bringing me (someone
with special gift) to this world." I pursuit self-realization and the
fulfillment of unleashing my potential. Like the guys before me, Ray
Charles was born to bring music to the world; Jordan was here for
promoting athletic expression in basketball; Dr. Norman Borlaug for
life-saving work using science.
Bruce Lee engraved his motto on a medallion, "Using no way as way, Having no limitation as limitation."
In his legendary life, he never ceased to pursuit the ultimate
expression of himself by martial art. To him, martial art is to express
himself fully, through his actions, through his thought. When someone
who is very clear about who he is, form and style no longer matters.
When Bruce is fighting, he no longer needs to consider how he is going
to punch or kick. He simply freed himself from any traditions or ways
of doing things, simply emerged himself with who he is. Any actions he
did, a simple quick kick or a devastating blow or a high flying
spinning round kick, was simply a way to express himself.
The ultimate way of martial art is formless and it should just be a simple action that comes from your heart and your soul.
